The decisions were taken during a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday, where various matters, including administrative affairs of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and defence cooperation between Pakistan and Kuwait, were discussed.

According to a briefing, the federal cabinet approved the new currency note designs on the recommendation of the Ministry of Finance.

The cabinet was informed that suggestions had been invited from artists and designers across the country for the preparation of the new currency notes.

A cabinet committee established by the prime minister also held detailed consultations with all relevant stakeholders regarding the designs.

The briefing further stated that modern security features would be incorporated into the new currency notes to prevent counterfeiting.

Modern materials would also be used in their production to improve durability and extend their usable life.

In a separate decision, the federal cabinet approved the introduction of a Rs10 coin to replace the existing Rs10 banknote.
