The Sindh Healthcare Commission (SHCC) took action after receiving a report from the district health officer confirming the case. Laboratory tests at a Dow University facility confirmed the infection.
According to the SHCC, the hospital had poor hygiene, inadequate infection prevention measures and other practices that raised concerns about patient safety. The commission also alleged that the facility was operating illegally and was being run by unqualified staff.
Officials faced resistance during the inspection but, with assistance from Korangi police, managed to bring the situation under control and seal the premises.
The infant is currently receiving treatment at the Sindh Infectious Diseases Hospital and Research Centre after developing a fever and rashes across his body. His parents initially took him to a private hospital, which referred him to the specialist facility.
