‘For the First Time, We Feel the Investigation Is Moving in the Right Direction,’ Says Mir Raza’s Father

Speaking during the visit, Mir Hussain said the family still did not know what had actually happened to his son. He said that if an effective investigation had been conducted from the beginning, the case could have reached a different stage by now.

He said the new investigation team was listening to all of the family’s concerns and that they had confidence in the team. ‘We will go as far as necessary to get justice,’ Mir Hussain said, adding that the family was trying to determine exactly how the incident occurred.

According to Mir Hussain, Mir Raza’s kitchen was located around half a kilometre from the site of the incident. He added that information about three suspicious individuals had already been provided to the police. He further alleged that the previous investigation team had not shared the progress of the investigation with the family. He expressed hope that the new team would take the case to its logical conclusion.

Jibran Nasir, the family’s lawyer, said Mir Raza’s parents had cooperated fully with police and had personally identified important locations for investigators.

He said samples collected after the exhumation of Mir Raza’s body had been sent to a forensic laboratory, while the family was waiting for the reports of samples collected during the post-mortem examination.

Police investigation faces questions

Meanwhile, further shortcomings in the initial investigation have also emerged. According to investigators, geofencing of the location had not been conducted despite several days having passed since the incident. Investigators also found that Mir Raza’s mobile phone data records had not initially been obtained, while the forensic examination of his smartwatch had also not been carried out.

The new investigation team has now begun addressing these gaps. Officials said geofencing of the incident location would be conducted, while mobile data records were being obtained.

Investigators have also collected details about a suspected guesthouse linked to the case. The new team has contacted the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) and a formal request will be submitted to determine whether Mir Raza had received any threats or faced any potential digital security concerns before his death.

The latest developments, including the forensic examination of samples collected after the exhumation, mobile data analysis and geofencing, are expected to provide investigators with additional evidence about the circumstances surrounding Mir Raza’s death.
