According to sources, Jamaat-e-Islami Vice Ameer Liaquat Baloch will lead the party’s team, while Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal will head the government delegation. Senator Rana Sanaullah, Federal Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik and Bilal Kiyani will also be part of the government team, along with senior officials.
The government delegation will brief Jamaat-e-Islami on steps already taken and possible proposals regarding its demands. The talks are expected to cover the petroleum levy, inflation, electricity prices, economic pressure on the public and other issues.
The meeting is scheduled for 3pm today at Mansoorah. The main aim of the talks is to find a political and negotiated solution to the ongoing protest sit-in.
Before the meeting, Ahsan Iqbal said the government committee was going to Mansoorah with full sincerity. He said the country needs peace, political stability and economic improvement, and differences should be resolved through dialogue rather than protests on the streets.
Jamaat-e-Islami says its protest is aimed at highlighting public issues and rising inflation, and pressure on the government will continue until its demands are addressed. However, any meaningful progress in the talks could help both sides decide the future course of the protest.
If the government and Jamaat-e-Islami reach an agreement on the demands, the talks could pave the way for an end to the sit-in and help resolve the issues through negotiations.
