In her petition, Dr Uzma maintained that Imran Khan had not been allowed to meet his family members despite the court’s directions. She also said he had not been provided access to a phone facility to speak with his sons.
According to the petition, Dr Uzma, Aleema Khan and Qasim Zaman had been prevented from meeting the jailed founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
Additional documents were submitted with the contempt petition, along with two miscellaneous applications seeking permission to place further documents on record.
Imran Khan has remained in prison since August 2023 following convictions that he and his party have described as politically motivated. Since his removal from office in April 2022 after a vote of no confidence, he has faced multiple legal cases.
The latest petition was filed two days after the Supreme Court rejected an application by Dr Uzma seeking an early hearing of her earlier contempt petition concerning her brother’s transfer for medical treatment, sources said.
Dr Uzma filed her first contempt petition on August 25 after authorities transferred Imran Khan to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) for a medical examination instead of Shifa International Hospital, as directed by the Supreme Court.
In its August 18 order, the Supreme Court had directed authorities to transfer Imran Khan, who is incarcerated at Adiala Jail, to Shifa International Hospital for a medical examination.
The latest development comes a day after the Islamabad High Court ordered jail authorities not to keep Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, in solitary confinement.
Justice Khadim Hussain Somroo announced the verdict while disposing of petitions challenging the alleged solitary confinement of the former prime minister and his wife.
The petitions had been filed by Aleema Khanum on behalf of Imran Khan and Mubashra Khawar Maneka, Bushra Bibi’s daughter, challenging their alleged isolation in jail.
