Justice Abher Gul Khan issued the direction while hearing a petition challenging the preventive detention of Imran Khan’s three sisters, Aleema Khan, Noreen Niazi and Uzma Khan.
During the hearing, Uzma’s husband, Ahad Khan, told the court that his wife had a heart condition and required three medicines daily. He requested the court to ensure that the medicines were provided to her regularly in jail.
The court directed the jail authorities to provide the required medication and reserved its decision on a request to summon senior officials in person.
The petitioner’s counsel, Rana Mudassar Umar, also requested permission for Noreen Niazi to receive clothes, medicines and spectacles in jail, describing them as basic necessities and her fundamental right.
He further sought permission for family members and lawyers to meet the detained women.
The counsel asked the court to summon the Lahore Capital City Police Officer and the deputy commissioner in person to clarify the circumstances surrounding the detention notifications.
The three sisters have been in detention for nearly three weeks under the Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance. Uzma and Noreen were detained for 30 days on September 21, ahead of PTI’s September 27 protest call, which was later postponed to October 4. Aleema was detained a day earlier, on September 20.
Sakeena Niazi, Noreen’s daughter, filed the petition on October 6 challenging the detentions.
At the previous hearing, the LHC had sought a report on the provision of medicines, clothes and other basic facilities to the sisters before adjourning the case until October 12.
On September 24, the court had rejected a request to immediately suspend the preventive detention notifications issued against Noreen and Uzma.
Earlier this month, Imran Khan’s cousin, Qasim Zaman, was also taken into custody when he went to Adiala jail to meet the former prime minister.
The detentions came amid reports of a crackdown on PTI ahead of its planned nationwide protests and march to Islamabad. The party has called for Imran Khan’s release and the supremacy of the Constitution.
