Addressing the convocation ceremony at Kinnaird College for Women University in Lahore, Maryam Nawaz said she wanted to empower women and ensure that female students had the resources and opportunities needed to become financially independent.

She said she was proud to be Punjab’s first woman chief minister and wanted other women to achieve similar positions of empowerment. She added that women often had to work harder to succeed.

Maryam Nawaz said she had spent the past three years working to ensure the safety of women across Punjab and to make the province more women-friendly.

Recalling the fears women had faced in the past, she said growing confidence among girls had helped overcome those concerns. She added that no one involved in crimes against women would be spared.

The chief minister also announced that the provincial government would use all available resources to support female students and promote women’s independence.

She said women would be provided with electric bikes on easy instalments and that the government would facilitate employment opportunities by providing the necessary support and services.

Maryam Nawaz also claimed that the Punjab government had taken effective measures to eliminate smog. She said the government would reach every household across the province and work to ensure that every child had access to education.

“Punjab is my home,” she said, adding that she wanted every street and neighbourhood across the province to remain clean.
