A high-level Kuwaiti delegation, led by Kuwait’s Defence Minister Sheikh Abdullah Ali Abdullah Al Salem Al Sabah, met Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif at the Ministry of Defence in Rawalpindi on Thursday.
Kuwait’s Chief of General Staff Lieutenant General Khaled Daraj Saad Al-Shuraian was also part of the delegation.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed matters of mutual interest and agreed to further strengthen bilateral defence and security ties. The Protocol Agreement 2026 was signed following the discussions.
The new agreement will expand the existing framework of military cooperation between Pakistan and Kuwait. According to an official statement, the Protocol Agreement 2026 is a continuation of the framework established under the 2023 Defence Cooperation Agreement.
Under the agreement, Pakistan will provide assistance to the Kuwaiti Armed Forces in various fields, including training and capacity building of Kuwaiti military personnel. The two countries will also enhance cooperation in border management and other mutually agreed defence-related areas.
The statement said Pakistan-Kuwait defence relations are based on mutual trust, respect and shared strategic interests. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening their defence partnership to promote mutual security, regional peace and stability.
Kuwaiti Defence Minister Meets Field Marshal Asim Munir
Separately, the Kuwaiti Defence Minister-led delegation visited General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi and met Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Lieutenant General Khaled Daraj Saad Al-Shuraian also attended the meeting.
The two sides discussed matters of mutual interest, regional security and bilateral defence cooperation. They reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening institutional ties and expanding defence cooperation between the two countries.
The Kuwaiti delegation appreciated the professional and operational expertise of Pakistan’s armed forces and their contributions towards regional peace and stability.
The meeting is expected to contribute to further strengthening the longstanding fraternal relations between Pakistan and Kuwait and consolidating their bilateral defence partnership.
