He said the Makkah Summit held on August 7 was an important development, while the agreement reflected the three countries’ commitment to strengthening security, peace and stability.
According to Andrabi, Pakistan played an important role in facilitating the Makkah Pact, which he described as significant for the security of all three participating countries. He said Pakistan would welcome the inclusion of additional countries in the agreement.
The spokesperson said Pakistan would continue its diplomatic efforts to promote regional peace despite ongoing challenges. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar had held discussions with the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Iran and Kuwait, while he also spoke with Bahrain’s foreign minister on August 11.
Pakistan hopeful of Iran-US talks
Andrabi said Pakistan remained hopeful about negotiations between Iran and the United States and had already made its position clear regarding the Islamabad Understanding.
He said that once both sides became tired of confrontation and tensions, the framework offered by the Islamabad Understanding could serve as a basis for negotiations. Five days remain before the implementation period of the understanding expires, he added.
The spokesperson confirmed that Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi was currently visiting Iran and had held meetings with Iranian leadership to discuss peace and bilateral relations. However, he said details of the discussions and messages exchanged could not be disclosed.
Pakistan has also invited Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf to visit Islamabad.
Pakistan condemns Houthi attack on commercial vessel
Andrabi condemned the Houthi attack on a commercial vessel in the Bab el-Mandeb strait, calling the incident unfortunate.
He said risks to shipping in the Red Sea had increased and Pakistan was closely monitoring the situation. Pakistan supports free and safe navigation in international waters and is ready to fulfil its responsibilities in this regard, he added.
He also said Pakistan supported negotiations between Iran and Oman and that Islamabad, along with friendly countries, backed the diplomatic process.
Regarding the Strait of Hormuz, Andrabi said any agreement concerning the waterway would be highly significant and expressed hope that direct talks between Iran and the US would resume soon despite existing difficulties.
Pakistan supports Saudi Arabia's security
The Foreign Office spokesperson reiterated that Pakistan was part of the coalition established for Saudi Arabia's security.
He said the Makkah Pact was clear in its purpose and focused on collective defence in the event of aggression. Pakistan rejected any negative interpretation of the agreement, he added.
On a reported US-Saudi civilian nuclear agreement, Andrabi said Pakistan was reviewing the details. He said Pakistan respected and supported Saudi Arabia's right to peaceful nuclear energy but would issue a detailed position once the complete details of the agreement became available.
Pakistan-Iran border security
Andrabi said Pakistan maintained effective border controls along its borders, including the border with Iran.
He welcomed the Iranian president's statement that no troublemaker would be allowed to enter Iran from Pakistan during the Iran-US conflict and expressed appreciation for the statement.
The spokesperson also reiterated Pakistan's support for the full rights of Kashmiris, including the people of Azad Kashmir.
Regarding questions over the legal process behind the Makkah Pact, Andrabi said Pakistan had established procedures for signing international agreements and assured that all legal requirements had been followed before, during and after the agreement's signing.
