In a statement, the PAA clarified that the suspension was limited to Riyadh and rejected speculation circulating on social media about a wider disruption to flights to Saudi Arabia.
The announcement comes amid heightened security concerns following attacks on Riyadh airport on Thursday. Saudi authorities reported that three people were killed and several others injured.
The attacks also damaged a Saudia Airlines aircraft and prompted several airlines to cancel flights to the Saudi capital.
Yemen’s Houthi group has reiterated threats against aircraft flying over Saudi Arabia, exempting flights operating over the holy cities of Makkah and Madinah.
Meanwhile, the European Union Aviation Safety Agency expanded the area covered by its advisory against airline operations, citing the recent attacks on Riyadh airport and the associated risks to civil aviation.
The PAA did not specify how long PIA’s suspension of flights to Riyadh would remain in place.
