In a statement, Barrister Gohar said the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would never accept measures that violated their rights. He said the province’s mandate was a constitutional and legal right of its people.
He added that peace could not be established by weakening provincial autonomy and that confrontation between the federal and provincial governments would not resolve the country’s problems.
The PTI chairman said the war could not be used as a justification for suppressing the voice of the people. He said there was no disagreement over the need to eliminate terrorism, but added that it could only be tackled through national unity.
Barrister Gohar said weakening the provinces would not strengthen the federation. He argued that the problems could be resolved through constitutional supremacy and meaningful dialogue rather than the use of force.
He said the PTI would raise its voice on every constitutional forum to protect democratic rights, adding that strong provinces were the foundation of a strong federation.
The PTI chairman urged the federal government to set aside its ego and accept legitimate demands.
Calling for a review of the decision to impose an emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Barrister Gohar said it could be reversed within days. He urged the authorities to respect public sentiment and prevent further political and economic damage to the country.
He added that reconsidering political decisions was not a sign of weakness but an act of wisdom in the national interest. He warned that failure to review the decision could result in significant losses for the country.
