PTI founder Imran Khan’s sister Aleema Khan detained in Lahore

According to the sources, Aleema Khan was leaving her home on Lahore’s Upper Mall to go to a gym when police took her into custody and later shifted her to Kot Lakhpat Jail.

They said Lytton Road police detained her, while her vehicle remained parked at the police station.

The detention comes as PTI prepares for a nationwide protest, including a march towards Islamabad on September 27, with the party demanding Imran Khan’s release and supremacy of the Constitution. Police in Islamabad have also detained four PTI workers ahead of the planned protest.

PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan said on Sunday that negotiations with the government should continue, but described the current political environment as “cold” and said no progress had been made.

“Negotiations should take place, but currently the environment is cold; nothing could be worked out,” Gohar told Geo News in Peshawar. He said political problems required political solutions and that all sides would have to take a step back.

Gohar also confirmed that meetings between PTI and government representatives were continuing, without denying reports of contact with Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.

Senate Opposition Leader Allama Raja Nasir Abbas said on Saturday that Naqvi had met opposition representatives and was told that only Imran Khan could decide whether to postpone the September 27 march.

Gohar said PTI would not block roads during the protest and assured that government resources would not be used to facilitate the march.

His remarks came after an Islamabad High Court ruling directing provincial governments to ensure that public resources and government employees were not used to facilitate a march towards the federal capital. The court also ruled that no political party could occupy public roads, highways or government buildings for a protest.

Gohar said the impression should not be created that the people and police of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would confront each other during the protest.

“We will not break any law during the protest, nor will we block roads,” he said.

The PTI chairman also said efforts were under way to increase the capacity of the KP police, adding that the province had spent Rs45 billion on the police department last year.

Meanwhile, the government has said it will prevent any march from entering Islamabad, while authorities have stepped up preparations ahead of the September 27 protest.
