According to police sources, Azhar was arrested in Multan and has been handed over to Lahore police. He is being transferred to Lahore, where investigators will question him in connection with cases registered over the May 9 incidents.

Police sources said Azhar had been wanted in several cases related to the violence that followed the arrest of former prime minister and PTI chairman Imran Khan on May 9, 2023. He had been declared a proclaimed offender in these cases.

His arrest comes as legal proceedings continue against several PTI leaders and workers in connection with the May 9 incidents.

On May 9, 2023, protests and violent clashes erupted in several cities across Pakistan following Imran Khan’s arrest. Several cases were registered over allegations of damage to public and private property and attacks on military installations.
