The new system is considered more secure because passwords can contain both letters and numbers. According to WhatsApp, the change is being introduced to provide stronger protection against account hacking.
If you are already using two-step verification to protect your account, you will be able to upgrade your PIN to a password.
WhatsApp is rolling out the change gradually, so the option may not be available to everyone yet. However, users are expected to receive access to the feature over the coming weeks.
How to Replace Your WhatsApp PIN with a Password?
WhatsApp’s new password feature is part of the platform’s existing two-step verification system.
Previously, users had to create a six-digit PIN, but the PIN can now be upgraded to a password for stronger protection.
Once the feature becomes available on your account, you can use it by opening WhatsApp and going to Settings. Then select Account and tap Two-step verification.
You will see a new password option. Tap it to create your password, and you can also add a recovery email address.
The password must contain at least eight characters, including at least one letter or number. Special characters can also be added, although they are not mandatory.
