The new Pajero is built on a strengthened ladder-frame platform derived from the Mitsubishi Triton pickup. The model will initially go on sale in Thailand, while its launch in Japan and Australia is planned by the end of March 2027.

Instead of directly repeating the styling of previous Pajero models, Mitsubishi has adopted a modern design influenced by its Xforce and Destinator SUVs. The front features a wide grille, prominent wheel arches and a rugged lower section, while increased ride height, side steps and mud flaps highlight its off-road character.

The new Pajero measures 4,920mm in length, 1,925mm in width and 1,910mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,870mm. Depending on the variant, the SUV will be available with wheels of up to 20 inches.

Unlike the previous Pajero, the new model uses a conventional tailgate, while the spare wheel is mounted underneath the vehicle.

Inside, the SUV offers three rows of seating for up to seven passengers. The second row can slide forward and backward by up to 150mm and can also be folded forward, making access to the third row easier while creating additional luggage space.

Higher-specification variants will feature leather seats, a soft-touch dashboard, sturdy grab handles, double-glazed side windows, an acoustic windscreen, three-zone automatic climate control and sunshades for the rear windows.

The second row will also offer heated seats, while a cooled storage compartment will be located beneath the centre armrest.

Higher variants will feature two 14.3-inch displays on the dashboard, while lower-priced versions will receive 12.3-inch screens. Mitsubishi has retained physical controls for key functions and added a rotary controller for different four-wheel-drive modes.

USB charging ports will be available across all three rows, while higher-specification versions will offer a 12-speaker Yamaha audio system.

Power comes from a 2.4-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine producing 204 horsepower and 480Nm of torque. The engine is paired with a new-generation eight-speed automatic transmission.

The SUV uses an upgraded version of the Triton’s existing ladder frame. Mitsubishi says the increased use of high-tensile steel improves the frame’s strength, durability, road handling and performance on rough terrain.

The suspension setup consists of a high-mounted double-wishbone system at the front and a five-link rigid axle at the rear. The Pajero has 230mm of ground clearance, with a 30.4-degree approach angle, 22.6-degree breakover angle and 25.8-degree departure angle.

Mitsubishi’s Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) system comes as standard. It works with four-wheel drive, active control, traction and stability control, and ABS to adjust power delivery and braking across the wheels according to driver inputs and road conditions.

The system is designed to improve stability and control on slippery and uneven surfaces.

With its reinforced ladder frame, turbo-diesel engine, seven-seat cabin and advanced four-wheel-drive system, Mitsubishi is positioning the new Pajero as a modern off-road flagship. Its performance and reception among buyers will become clearer once sales begin in its initial markets.
