Speaking at a press conference in London ahead of the second Test against England, Babar said no player should consider themselves guaranteed a place in the team.
He acknowledged that Pakistan have struggled with sudden batting collapses after establishing strong partnerships.
“We are trying to address this weakness,” Babar said, explaining that when a new batter comes to the crease, the established batter has often been dismissed soon afterwards.
Discussing conditions at Lord’s, Babar said there was visible grass on the pitch and that the final playing XI would be decided later.
He said every player remained important to the team, adding that opportunities are sometimes given to players to help build their confidence.
Babar also dismissed suggestions that wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan was under pressure.
The Pakistan captain stressed that responsibility for the team’s performance rests with the entire playing XI and cannot be placed solely on the bowlers.
“It cannot be that the bowlers take 20 wickets and the batters do nothing,” he said.
Babar confirmed that he is fully fit and will play in the Lord’s Test.
Pakistan will also be looking to extend their winning record at the iconic venue and complete a hat-trick of victories at Lord’s.
