According to sources close to Misbah, he has informed the PCB of his decision and will serve a notice period before formally leaving the board. The resignation comes amid major changes to Pakistan’s Test setup following consecutive defeats against England.
Pakistan have already lost the three-match Test series against England 2-0, with the second Test at Lord’s ending in a 194-run defeat for the visitors. The third and final Test is scheduled to begin at Edgbaston in Birmingham on September 9.
The PCB has released seven players from the Test squad ahead of the final match. The players include Mohammad Rizwan, Imam-ul-Haq, Salman Ali Agha, Aamer Jamal, Ali Usman, Muhammad Awais Zafar and Khurram Shahzad.
The board has also made changes to the coaching staff, releasing red-ball head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed and bowling coach Umar Gul. White-ball head coach Mike Hesson and former Australia seamer Ashley Noffke will take charge of the team’s coaching setup for the third Test.
Misbah’s resignation comes just a day after the PCB announced the sweeping changes to the Test squad and coaching staff. According to reports, he was unhappy with the extent of the changes made ahead of the final Test.
Meanwhile, Imam-ul-Haq has returned to Pakistan after missing the second Test due to an injury. His injury has also come under scrutiny, with reports suggesting that he could face an inquiry by the PCB.
The latest developments have added to the uncertainty surrounding Pakistan cricket as the team prepares for the final Test of the England tour.
