Consultations over the schedule are under way, with the proposed dates also discussed during a PSL Governing Council meeting in London.
Holding the tournament in January could create challenges over the availability of foreign players, as several international series and other T20 leagues are expected to take place during the period.
Weather conditions could also affect the schedule. Punjab typically experiences cold weather and dense fog during January and February, which could create difficulties for matches as well as travel.
Another proposal under consideration is to hold an additional tournament during the middle of the year, potentially creating new revenue opportunities for PSL franchises and broadcasters.
However, January 2027 has not been finalised as the date for PSL 12. The PCB, franchises and other stakeholders will make a final decision after further consultations.
Pakistan's national team is scheduled to host Sri Lanka and England in October and November, followed by a two-Test series against New Zealand in March. The New Zealand series is expected to be Pakistan's final Test assignment in the current World Test Championship cycle.
This has led to discussions about using the available window between mid-November and March for the next PSL season.
The first nine editions of the PSL were generally held in February and March. However, the tournament was moved to April and May in 2025 and 2026 because of the ICC Champions Trophy and T20 World Cup respectively. The change also resulted in the PSL being held during the same period as the Indian Premier League.
