Pakistan fast bowler and ODI captain Shaheen Shah Afridi achieved the landmark during the match against England in the tri-nation series at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium. He dismissed England opener Tom Banton in the first over of the innings to claim his 150th ODI wicket.

Banton, who had scored four consecutive half-centuries in his previous four innings, was caught by Arafat Minhas at extra cover off a full-length delivery from Shaheen.

The achievement makes Shaheen Pakistan’s fastest fast bowler to reach 150 ODI wickets and the second-fastest Pakistani bowler overall.

Shaheen Afridi Reaches 150 ODI Wickets in 80 Matches

The 26-year-old completed the milestone in his 80th ODI, surpassing former Pakistan pace greats Waqar Younis and Shoaib Akhtar, who each took 91 matches to reach 150 wickets.

However, the overall Pakistan record remains with former off-spinner Saqlain Mushtaq, who achieved the feat in just 78 matches.

Shaheen Afridi’s Record at Gaddafi Stadium

Shaheen has also enjoyed impressive success at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium, where he has taken 16 wickets in six matches.

Under his leadership, Pakistan have played 13 ODIs, winning nine of them.

The left-arm fast bowler has previously faced criticism over a decline in his bowling speed. Responding to the discussion, Shaheen acknowledged that his pace had decreased but said Pakistan needed wickets from him more than raw speed in the team’s current circumstances.

Pakistan and England Face Off in Lahore After 21 Years

Pakistan and England met in an ODI at Gaddafi Stadium for the first time in 21 years. Their previous ODI at the venue was played on December 12, 2005, when Pakistan defeated England by seven wickets.

Having won their opening two matches of the tri-nation series, Pakistan entered the contest against England aiming to extend their winning run.

The match also supported a breast cancer awareness campaign, with Pakistan players wearing pink kits to raise awareness about the disease.
