According to Iranian media, speaking at the inauguration of several infrastructure projects in Tehran, Pezeshkian said that if the two sides move forward through dialogue and on the basis of existing memorandums of understanding, problems can be resolved and Iran’s rights can be protected.
The Iranian president said Tehran does not want war but would respond to any aggression with full force.
“We do not want war, but we will stand firmly against aggression and defend ourselves,” Pezeshkian said, stressing that no power can force a united nation determined to defend its territory to surrender.
Pezeshkian said Iran would not bow to threats or pressure, adding that the Iranian people, government and military leadership remain united in defending the country.
He also called on Trump to avoid creating further turmoil in the region, saying peace and stability are in the interests of Iran, the region and the wider world.
The Iranian president accused Israel of attempting to create divisions among Muslim countries, saying greater unity among Islamic nations could thwart such efforts.
“If peace and stability are to be established in the world, they must begin from within the region,” Pezeshkian said.
Turning to domestic issues, Pezeshkian described maintaining industrial production during the coming winter as a top government priority. He said supplies of gas, electricity and water to industrial facilities should not be disrupted.
He added that if restrictions become unavoidable, the government should impose them first on government offices and public buildings rather than placing the burden on the public.
Iran and the United States reached a 14-point memorandum of understanding in June, mediated by Pakistan and Qatar, aimed at paving the way for negotiations on a ceasefire and a broader agreement.
Tehran has maintained that further progress depends on Washington fulfilling its commitments under the memorandum of understanding.
