A sudden flash flood in Nepal’s Rasuwa district caused widespread destruction, with more than 500 tourists reportedly still missing. Rescue teams are carrying out search operations in the affected areas to locate those who remain unaccounted for.
According to Nepalese tourism authorities, more than 400 of the missing people are foreign nationals. They include 142 Indian, 54 American, 34 Australian, 33 British, 24 Canadian, 17 Malaysian and 53 Ukrainian citizens.
Several people from South Korea, South Africa, Portugal and the Netherlands are also among those reported missing.
Meanwhile, Chinese state media reported that 558 people are missing in Gyirong County in Tibet following landslides. The missing include around 260 foreign nationals, while at least three people have been killed in the incidents.
Chinese media said the floods and landslides caused severe damage to homes, roads and power infrastructure in the border region.
Rescue and relief operations are continuing on both sides of the Nepal-China border as authorities assess the scale of the destruction and search for those still missing.
