According to the IRGC, the two vessels were travelling through an “illegal passage” south of the strait when they struck mines laid by the Iranian navy, causing fires on board.
The IRGC Navy warned that passage through the mined route was illegal and threatened that violators could face the destruction of their assets.
However, the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) and other maritime security monitoring bodies have not independently confirmed the reported explosions.
Meanwhile, oil prices have risen amid escalating tensions involving the Houthis and Saudi Arabia, as well as continued attacks on vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.
Brent crude prices climbed above $111 per barrel during early trading, reaching their highest level in five months as concerns over shipping security and potential disruptions to global oil supplies intensified.
