The latest revision comes after the government implemented a daily review system for petroleum prices, replacing the previous weekly adjustment mechanism.
The shift to daily price reviews follows the government s earlier decision to move from fortnightly to weekly revisions after tensions escalated following the US-Israel conflict with Iran on February 28.
During the previous weekly review, petrol and HSD prices had already been raised by Rs13.18 and Rs13.80 per litre, respectively.
According to the earlier notification, petrol was being sold at Rs310.71 per litre, while high-speed diesel was priced at Rs323.30 per litre before the latest increase.
Petrol is primarily used by owners of motorcycles, cars and rickshaws, making any increase in its price a direct burden on middle and lower-middle-income households that rely on private transport for daily commuting.
High-speed diesel, meanwhile, is widely used by the transport and agriculture sectors, including trucks, buses, trains, tractors, tube wells and threshers.
An increase in diesel prices is generally considered inflationary, as it raises transportation costs and contributes to higher prices of vegetables, food items and other essential commodities.
