A Chromebook is a computer that primarily operates through the internet and online services. Students can use it to access educational materials, conduct online research and complete various academic tasks.
Under the government’s Prime Minister’s Youth Chromebook Scheme, eligible students are expected to receive Chromebooks based on their academic performance. However, submitting an application does not guarantee selection.
Who Is Eligible for the Free Chromebook Scheme?
According to the latest information available on the official portal of the Inter Boards Coordination Commission (IBCC), the scheme is currently focused on students enrolled in government or public schools.
Students who perform well in the annual 2026 examinations for Grade 9, also known as SSC Part I, under the education boards of Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan will be considered.
In Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Islamabad and Gilgit-Baltistan, high-performing students in Grades 9 and 10 will be included.
Initial information about the scheme states that students must secure at least 50 per cent marks. However, obtaining 50 per cent marks does not guarantee that a student will receive a Chromebook. Final selection will depend on the lists provided by the relevant education boards and the scheme’s prescribed criteria.
The scheme’s initial information also mentions students enrolled in private schools operating with the support of provincial education foundations and students studying at registered religious seminaries. However, the latest eligibility details on the official portal differ from these earlier descriptions.
According to the portal, eligibility is currently limited to students attending government or public schools. Students enrolled in private schools or religious seminaries should confirm their eligibility with the relevant education board or through the official scheme portal.
Each student can submit an application only once.
How to Apply for a Free Chromebook
First, open the official scheme portal on your mobile phone or computer:
Official portal: https://pmychromebooks.ibcc.edu.pk
Select your relevant education board from the available options. These may include Lahore, Gujranwala, Peshawar, Quetta, Mirpur or Islamabad, depending on the boards listed on the portal.
Next, enter your national identity card number, B-Form number, examination roll number or registration number. Use the information recorded with your education board.
According to the portal’s instructions, do not use dashes when entering your number. Make sure you also provide your correct date of birth, then click the option to search for your record.
If your record is found, check your name, school details and examination marks on the next screen. This information is obtained from the lists provided by the relevant education board.
If your record does not appear, try searching again using your roll number or registration number. If the problem persists, contact your relevant education board.
Which Documents Are Required?
Prepare the required documents before completing your application. These include:
A recent colour photograph
Grade 9 or Grade 10 marks sheet
An attested copy of your B-Form or national identity card
An attested copy of your father’s or guardian’s national identity card
The photograph should be taken from the front against a plain background.
According to the official portal, the photograph must be in JPG or PNG format and should not exceed 300 kilobytes (KB).
The marks sheet and identity documents can be uploaded in JPG, PNG or PDF format. Each file must also be no larger than 300 KB.
Make sure all documents are clear, legible and easy to read.
Important Precautions When Submitting Your Application
Before uploading your documents, read the latest instructions available on the portal. Review all the information carefully before submitting the application.
Pay particular attention to your name, date of birth, roll number and academic details. Applicants will not be able to edit the form themselves after submission.
Providing incorrect information could result in the cancellation of a Chromebook allocation and may lead to further action.
After successfully submitting your application, save the reference number and application slip. It is also important to download and keep a copy of the slip for your records.
What Happens After You Apply?
Submitting an application and being selected to receive a Chromebook are two separate stages.
After applying, keep checking the official scheme portal and announcements from your relevant education board. Confirm the selection list, distribution schedule and other important details through official sources only.
According to the information currently available on the official portal, registration for students in Sindh will begin once the annual 2026 Grade 9 examination results have been announced by all the relevant education boards.
How to Avoid Fraud
Students and parents should remain alert to scams involving the Chromebook scheme.
Do not pay an unrelated person who promises to submit your application, secure a place on the merit list or guarantee a Chromebook. Avoid sharing your identity information or account details unnecessarily.
If anyone demands a fee to process your application or provide a Chromebook, verify the official instructions before making any payment.
If your child meets the eligibility requirements, the first step is to check their record on the official portal. Prepare the required documents and remember to save the reference number after submitting the application.
Share this information with other students, parents and guardians so they can learn about the Prime Minister’s Youth Chromebook Scheme and access accurate guidance.
