The schedule was approved by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz during a meeting on Wednesday.
According to a statement issued by the Punjab government, the chief minister directed authorities to begin preparations for the extended celebrations and ensure arrangements for public safety and convenience.
She described the festival as a way to promote Punjab’s cultural heritage and Lahore’s centuries-old traditions. The Basant celebrations will remain suspended on February 5 due to Kashmir Day.
Maryam Nawaz also urged citizens to celebrate responsibly and stressed that strict compliance with safety regulations would be essential for the success of the 10-day festival.
Lahore held Basant earlier this year from February 6 to 8 after an 18-year hiatus. The festival had been banned in 2007 following deaths and serious injuries linked to sharp kite strings and aerial firing.
The Punjab government had previously announced different dates for Basant in 2027. In August, the chief minister had announced that the festival would be held from March 12 to 14, but the latest announcement revises the schedule to January 29-February 7.
The government had also announced new rules and regulations for kite flying in May ahead of next year’s celebrations.
