According to Iran’s state news agency IRNA, Naqvi later met Abbas Araghchi on Tuesday evening. The two officials discussed regional and international developments, the evolving situation in the region and ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at maintaining peace and stability.
The meeting also covered bilateral relations and matters of mutual interest between Pakistan and Iran. During his visit, Naqvi is expected to hold further meetings with senior Iranian officials, with bilateral issues and matters of mutual interest likely to remain on the agenda.
The Pakistani interior minister’s visit comes about a month after Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni visited Islamabad, where he held talks with his Pakistani counterpart.
Pakistan has recently played a role in diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions between Iran and the United States. Islamabad, along with Qatar, also contributed to efforts in June to establish a memorandum of understanding between Tehran and Washington.
However, Iran has accused the United States of violating the understanding and has subsequently closed the Strait of Hormuz again.
Tehran has maintained that the strategic waterway will only be reopened after Washington ends what Iran describes as violations of the understanding and addresses the losses resulting from those violations.
The latest meeting between Naqvi and Araghchi comes amid continued regional tensions and growing diplomatic efforts to prevent further escalation.
