The increase will be reflected in consumers’ November electricity bills and will also apply to K-Electric customers.
The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) had requested a higher increase of Rs2.56 per unit under the September fuel price adjustment.
Separately, Nepra has approved an increase of Rs2.32 per unit in the concessional electricity rate for additional consumption by industrial and agricultural consumers. The regulator has forwarded its decision to the federal government.
Under the revised rate, electricity supplied through the additional consumption package will cost Rs25.30 per unit, up from Rs22.98. The new rate will take effect from the November billing cycle.
The federal government currently provides relief of Rs11 to Rs15 per unit to industrial and agricultural consumers on electricity used above their usual consumption levels.
The decision was reached through the casting vote of Nepra chairman, while two members, Amna Ahmed and Maqsood Anwar Khan, submitted dissenting notes.
In their notes, the two members described the proposed rate of Rs25.30 per unit as baseless.
In October last year, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced the Roshan Economy Power Package, introducing a discounted rate of Rs22.98 per unit for additional electricity consumed by industrial and agricultural users.
The three-year scheme, which runs from November 2025 to October 2028, applies only to electricity consumed above the previous year's usage. Consumers continue to pay existing tariffs for their regular consumption.
The package was introduced to encourage industrial production, boost exports and create jobs without transferring the cost of relief to household consumers.
It offers progressively higher tariff discounts to industrial and agricultural consumers as their additional electricity consumption increases.
