According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the premier was received at Manas International Airport by Kyrgyzstan’s Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Adylbek Kasymaliev.
During his visit, PM Shehbaz will participate in the SCO Council of Heads of State meeting and the SCO Plus Summit. He will also attend the opening ceremony of the World Nomad Games as a special guest.
The prime minister is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with leaders of several countries participating in the SCO summit. Discussions are expected to cover bilateral relations, trade and investment, regional cooperation and other matters of mutual interest.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, on Monday for a three-day official visit to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit and present Pakistan’s position on regional and global issues.
PM Shehbaz will also meet Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov to review the entire spectrum of Pakistan-Kyrgyzstan relations.
According to the Foreign Office, the two leaders will discuss ways to strengthen cooperation in trade and investment, energy, regional connectivity, education, tourism and people-to-people contacts. They will also exchange views on regional and international developments.
PM Shehbaz is accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan, Communications Minister Abdul Aleem Khan, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar and other senior officials.
The prime minister’s visit, which will continue until September 2, comes at the invitation of President Zhaparov. During the visit, Pakistan will assume the chairmanship of the SCO Council of Heads of State for 2026-27.
The visit is also expected to build on recent high-level exchanges between Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan and further strengthen cooperation between the two countries.
In July, President Asif Ali Zardari visited Kyrgyzstan on a four-day official visit, becoming the first Pakistani head of state to visit the Central Asian country in 21 years.
Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov visited Pakistan in December 2025, during which both countries agreed to deepen cooperation in trade, investment, energy and regional connectivity.
Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan have also agreed to increase bilateral trade to $200 million by 2027-28 and signed agreements covering commerce, energy, mining, agriculture, tourism, healthcare, culture and customs cooperation.
The two countries have reaffirmed support for the CASA-1000 electricity transmission project and welcomed the operationalisation of a road corridor under the Quadrilateral Traffic in Transit Agreement (QTTA).
The first meeting of the Strategic Political and Defence Committee, established under the Mecca Joint Defence Agreement, was held in Istanbul on Monday. Foreign and defence ministers as well as military chiefs from all three member states attended the meeting.
Addressing a press conference after the meeting, Fidan said the alliance’s secretariat would be established in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, while its first secretary general would be from Pakistan.
Fidan said the alliance would be based on international principles including respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of other states and non-interference in their internal affairs.
He added that the alliance would remain open to other countries in the region.
The Istanbul meeting took place amid renewed hostilities between the United States and Iran after a month-long pause. The conflict began following US and Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28 and has now continued for more than six months.
