According to security sources, the suspect was killed after security forces responded to the firing incident on the city’s main Mall Road. A PTI party flag, weapons, ammunition and other documents were reportedly recovered from his possession.
Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar condemned the incident and accused PTI workers of resorting to violence and carrying weapons during protests.
Tarar said the Mall Road firing incident had raised serious questions about the nature of PTI protests. He alleged that PTI workers had repeatedly arrived at demonstrations armed with weapons and claimed that the party did not believe in peaceful protest.
The federal minister said there was no justification for opening fire on security personnel in broad daylight. He further alleged that violence and disruption of law and order had become part of PTI’s political strategy.
Tarar also referred to PTI’s announced long march and said the party’s previous protests had raised similar concerns. He alleged that police and Rangers personnel had been killed during earlier PTI demonstrations.
He said the recovery of a PTI flag and other documents from the deceased suspect had brought further details of the incident to light.
Tarar alleged that PTI wanted to create unrest and disrupt law and order in the country, adding that the government would continue working towards Pakistan’s development.
He said the government and security institutions would continue to take measures to maintain peace and stability across the country.
