Playing at the Wagener Hockey Stadium in Amstelveen, the Netherlands, Pakistan struggled to cope with England’s sustained attacking pressure throughout the match.
England took the lead in the 12th minute through Stuart Rushmere. Sam Ward then doubled the advantage in the second quarter to leave Pakistan trailing 2-0 at halftime.
Samuel Hooper extended England’s lead in the 31st minute before James Albery scored in the 47th minute to make it 4-0.
Pakistan, appearing at the World Cup for the first time since 2018 after missing the 2023 edition, managed to pull one goal back through Rehman Abdul Afraz in the 50th minute.
The Green Shirts also earned two penalty corners but failed to convert either opportunity, while England repeatedly put Pakistan’s defence under pressure with their attacking play and penalty corners.
Despite their late effort, Pakistan could not find a way back into the contest as England secured a convincing 4-1 victory.
Pakistan will next face Wales on August 17 before taking on arch-rivals India on August 19.
