According to the International Cricket Council (ICC), Pakistan were found to have bowled 11 overs short of the required rate within the allotted time. Even after taking the available time allowances into account, the team was found guilty of a slow over-rate offence.
Under the rules, teams are fined 5% of their match fee for every over short, with the maximum penalty capped at 50%. As Pakistan were 11 overs short, the team received the maximum 50% match-fee fine.
The WTC regulations also state that one championship point is deducted for every over a team fails to bowl within the required time. As a result, Pakistan lost 11 WTC points, which could affect their position and chances in the championship points table.
Pakistan captain Babar Azam accepted the proposed sanction and admitted the slow over-rate offence, meaning no formal hearing was required.
The charges were brought against Pakistan by on-field umpires Paul Reiffel and Chris Gaffaney, third umpire Allahudien Paleker and fourth umpire Russell Warren.
