CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke made the announcement during a press conference in New Delhi on Thursday, following a report by The Indian Express about disagreements among senior officials of the Election Commission of India.
CJP co-convener Saurav Das presented three key demands: the resignation of Gyanesh Kumar, criminal proceedings against Kumar and those who allegedly directed him, and a temporary suspension of all scheduled elections in the country.
The group has also demanded that the ongoing Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls be restored to the 2025 position.
The CJP’s demands came a day after The Indian Express reported that Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi had raised objections or expressed concerns on at least 14 occasions over the past 10 months regarding decisions and actions within the Election Commission. Most of the issues were reportedly related to the revision of electoral rolls.
The two election commissioners allegedly questioned whether major decisions were being taken by the Chief Election Commissioner without informing other members and subsequently presented as unanimous decisions.
Indian opposition parties have also raised allegations over the electoral-roll revision process, claiming that voters’ names have been removed from electoral lists. The BJP has rejected allegations of bias, while the Election Commission has said differences between election commissioners are part of institutional deliberations and that its final decisions are lawful.
CJP co-convener Ashutosh Ranka called for people to take to the streets and appealed to Generation Z and other social groups to join the proposed protests.
Saurav Das said people were demanding that the group speak out against alleged irregularities in the Election Commission. He also alleged that the BJP’s vote share had increased in several states since Gyanesh Kumar became Chief Election Commissioner.
CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke further alleged that the Election Commission had manipulated elections and claimed that Gyanesh Kumar was working in favour of the BJP.
Speaking to the media in New Delhi, Dipke alleged that Gyanesh Kumar was acting on the instructions of Indian Home Minister Amit Shah.
The allegations made by the CJP have not been independently established. The Election Commission has maintained that differences among its members are normal and that its decisions are lawful.
