Among these accusations, the most staggering is that Altaf Hussain, while reportedly intoxicated, allegedly ordered the murder of senior party leader Dr. Imran Farooq as a ‘gift’ for his birthday.
These revelations are a bitter reminder for the Muhajir community that Altaf Hussain, who called himself their leader, has been responsible for their perilously deteriorating condition.
He pushed Urdu speaking Muhajirs educated, cultured, and civilized migrants who came to Pakistan after the Partition into a treacherous swamp of violence.
Though MQM was initially founded to fight for Muhajir rights, it soon became synonymous with ruthlessly executed violence, extortion, target killings, and ignorance. Historical records indicate that in the 1990s, thousands fell victim to political violence in Karachi, many of which were linked to the party’s armed wing.
During Operation Cleanup (1992,1994), thousands of MQM workers and supporters were killed or went missing, a direct consequence of the party’s combustible activities, which included extortion, land grabs, and elimination of opponents.
Human rights organizations like Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch repeatedly alleged MQM’s involvement in torture, violent suppression, and mafia like operations.
The murder of Dr. Imran Farooq serves as a stark testament to Altaf Hussain’s ruthlessness. In 2010, Dr. Farooq was stabbed to death in London. In 2020, Islamabad’s Anti Terrorism Court sentenced three MQM workers Khalid Shamim, Mohsin Ali, and Moazzam Ali to life imprisonment, while Altaf Hussain remained a fugitive.
Mustafa Kamal revealed in the press conference that Altaf Hussain, reportedly under the influence, ordered party workers to eliminate Dr. Farooq, claiming he was a source of trouble, and the murder was executed in London.
Kamal further alleged that Hussain collected millions of pounds globally under the pretense of bringing Dr. Farooq’s widow’s body to Pakistan, but it was merely a charade. These accusations are not new, former MQM leader Sult Mirza also made similar claims before his death in a video statement.
Additionally, Altaf Hussain has been alleged to receive funding from the Indian intelligence agency RAW for decades, which was used to fuel violence in Karachi. These claims intensified after his anti Pakistan speech in 2016 when Scotland Yard initiated investigations.
Although some cases were closed in the UK, charges of treason and terrorism against him remain in Pakistan. MQM’s armed wing turned Karachi into a city strewn with bodies, ethnic violence, and extortion. In 2011 alone, 1,800 murders occurred in the city, many linked to MQM.
Altaf Hussain pushed the Muhajir community away from education and progress toward violence and ignorance. Educated and cultured Muhajirs, once advocates of civilization, were constrained by corruption, extortion, and crime.
Today, many young Muhajirs are unfortunately trapped in this cycle. Mustafa Kamal stated that Altaf Hussain is not a leader but a killer. He transformed the party into his personal juggernaut, ruthlessly targeting rivals.
Now, the Muhajir community must awaken. Voices like Mustafa Kamal’s are pivotal in guiding the community out of this treacherous swamp. Altaf Hussain’s politics have only led to death, destruction, and division.
It is time for the community to face the truth and move toward education, peace, and progress. Mustafa Kamal’s unwavering courage, speaking truth under mounting pressure, deserves respect. Long live the Muhajir community, long live Pakistan.
