He urged the government to act with corrective action immediately stating that Karachi, which was once referred to as the City of Lights, has been turned into darkness to a standstill in commercial activities.
Mir reported that K-Electric and electricity thieves have been fighting over the same issues that have led to high bills, and undue taxes imposed on the average consumer.
He has observed that low-income households will stop being able to afford electricity, and the number of illegal connections will increase. He emphasized that the government should immediately adjust tariffs of power to reasonable values.
The trader head was also reminded of the time prior to the elections when the citizens were being given 200 to 300 units of free electricity, which is no longer on even at much higher rates.
He also included that the honest consumers have been compelled to assume the financial cost incurred through electricity theft and unpaid bills.
Mir had warned that the constant power outages have slackened the market activities, led to businesses closure and it has been a significant risk to the economy of the country.
