The rise follows a strong run of performances in 2026, including a 4-0 away series victory over Ireland in August and an unbeaten campaign in the recently concluded ODI tri-series in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Afghanistan defeated Zimbabwe by seven wickets in the final in Sharjah to win the tri-series, which also featured Bangladesh. Leg-spinner Rashid Khan was named Player of the Series after taking 11 wickets during the competition.

Afghanistan also bowled Bangladesh out for 160 before chasing down the target in 35.3 overs.

Afghanistan Continue Rise in ODI Rankings

Afghanistan have now moved ahead of Sri Lanka in the ICC rankings after previously climbing above Bangladesh, England and West Indies.

The team has won 96 of its 191 ODI matches, maintaining a win-loss ratio of 1.09.

Their recent performances have further strengthened their position among the leading teams in international one-day cricket.

India Lead ICC ODI Rankings

India currently hold the top position in the ICC men's ODI team rankings.

New Zealand, South Africa, Pakistan and Australia occupy the next four positions, while Afghanistan have moved into sixth place.

In the T20I team rankings, England are at the top, followed by India in second place and Australia in third.
