According to Indian media, Girija Oak shared these views during an interview. She rose to prominence after her performance in the film “Taare Zameen Par” and gradually built her place in the entertainment industry.
In the interview, she said that although sudden fame brought admiration, it also exposed her to inappropriate messages and unacceptable conduct.
The actress said she began her professional journey at a very young age and has now spent almost 20 to 25 years in the industry.
She added that with the passage of time a person may develop a thick skin, yet insisting that people’s behaviour does not affect her would not be true.
Girija Oak expressed shock at the conduct of some men who send inappropriate messages without hesitation and consider it their right, as if actresses are available to everyone without limits.
She said that at times the sense of entitlement with which such messages are sent is astonishing. It gives the impression that women are someone’s property and responding to such messages becomes a challenge.
Girija Oak said that after the deepfake images went viral she received a large number of such messages which forced her to question her identity and the way others view her.
It is worth noting that highly obscene and objectionable deepfake images of several Indian actresses were circulated online with the help of artificial intelligence which caused severe mental distress to the victims.
