The festival will be held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, from December 4 to 13. This marks the first time Pakistan has secured a place in the prestigious event, made possible through the efforts of Nausheen Waseem.
The selection is being hailed as a significant milestone for Pakistani cinema, reflecting its expanding footprint in the global film landscape.
“Ghost School” follows the story of a rural girl whose school is abruptly shut down, triggering whispers of supernatural activity in the village. Determined to uncover the truth, she sets out on a journey that reveals deeper social issues connected to education, superstition, and life in rural communities.
The film has already earned international recognition, having premiered earlier this year at the Toronto International Film Festival. At the Red Sea Film Festival, it will be featured in the “Families & Children” category, with screenings scheduled for Wednesday, December 2 at 2:00 PM and Thursday, December 11 at 3:00 PM at Culture Square in Jeddah.
The film’s inclusion underscores the festival’s commitment to showcasing meaningful and socially relevant stories from across the world, with “Ghost School” standing out as a strong representation of the social fabric of Pakistani society.
