According to DSP Chagai Abid Sherzai, the accident occurred on the Dalbandin road when the passenger vehicle crashed into the larger vehicle, initially reported as a trailer travelling from Quetta to Taftan.
Officials said the car was carrying around 15 passengers and was reportedly overloaded. The impact of the collision was severe, leaving several passengers dead on the spot while others suffered critical injuries.
Rescue teams and local administration officials reached the site shortly after the crash and shifted the injured to Prince Fahad Hospital in Dalbandin for treatment.
Hospital authorities said some of the injured remain in critical condition.
Police have detained the driver of the larger vehicle and launched an investigation into the incident.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah also expressed grief over the loss of lives in the accident.
The latest tragedy comes months after another deadly crash in Chagai district near Yakmach in January 2026, when seven people, including women and children, were killed in a collision between two double-cabin vehicles along the same highway route.
The RCD Highway, which connects Pakistan with Iran, has witnessed repeated fatal accidents over the years, with speeding, reckless driving, overloaded vehicles and poor road conditions often cited as major causes.
