During the meeting, PTI Member of National Assembly Ali Muhammad Khan also complained that the speeches of opposition leaders in the National Assembly are not fully broadcast.

He demanded that such restrictions be lifted so that the public can be fully informed about the proceedings of the House.

Reacting to his stance, Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq said that there is no restriction on the proceedings of the House and all speeches are broadcast according to the rules and regulations. He clarified that there is no discriminatory policy regarding broadcasting.

On the other hand, Opposition Leader Barrister Gohar Ali Khan also expressed reservations on this issue and said that his and other opposition members’ speeches sometimes do not reach the public in their entirety.

He demanded that if there is an objection to some parts of a speech, it can be broadcast later in an appropriate manner, however, it is not appropriate to completely stop the speeches.

Speaker Ayaz Sadiq responded by saying that they also have to take into account matters related to national security and sometimes caution is exercised on sensitive matters.

To this, Barrister Gohar took the stand that the opposition does not speak against national security.

It should be noted that this debate in the National Assembly has once again highlighted the question of balance between parliamentary transparency, freedom of expression and respect for state institutions.

According to political and parliamentary circles, expressing different opinions is a fundamental right in a democratic system, however, it is also necessary to keep in mind state interests and sensitive national matters.
