Early signs point to what officials are calling ‘black acid rain’ over parts of Tehran a troubling signal of the damage left behind when massive oil facilities burn.

According to Pakistan’s Meteorological Department, the situation inside Iran appears serious and unsettling, although the full picture is still unclear. Communication and internet disruptions during the conflict have slowed the flow of weather data from Iran, leaving scientists to rely heavily on satellite monitoring.

Officials say that, for now, Pakistan remains largely out of harm’s way. The polluted clouds currently appear concentrated over a limited area around Tehran, which lies in the northwest of Iran. If the contamination spreads, meteorologists believe it would most likely drift toward Afghanistan before reaching Pakistan.

Western winds which often carry dust and atmospheric particles across borders could push polluted gases and soot filled particles toward Pakistan’s western regions. If that happens, air quality in areas near the border may briefly worsen, creating hazy skies and unhealthy air for residents.

Scientists explain that the burning of large oil reserves releases huge amounts of carbon and chemical particles into the upper atmosphere. These emissions can trap heat, slightly raising temperatures at higher altitudes. Warmer air can hold more moisture, which may subtly reshape rainfall patterns in nearby regions in the months ahead.

In simple terms, the smoke from burning oil does not just disappear, it lingers, travels, and sometimes returns to earth as polluted rain.

For now, meteorologists say there is no immediate sign of acid rain in Pakistan, but the skies will remain under close watch. Satellite systems are tracking the movement of smoke plumes and atmospheric pollutants day and night.

Environmental analysts warn that war rarely ends at the battlefield. Sometimes its quietest consequences drift through the air carried by winds that do not recognize borders.

Authorities say monitoring will continue in the coming days, as the region waits to see whether the dark clouds over Iran remain local or slowly begin to roam across the neighborhood.
