In a statement posted on the social media platform X, CENTCOM said it had carried out “highly precise strikes” against Iran’s coastal defense systems, cruise missile storage facilities, and missile launch sites located on Greater Tunb Island.
The US military said the operation lasted approximately 90 minutes and involved the use of advanced precision-guided weapons.
According to CENTCOM, the objective of the strikes was to further reduce Iran’s capability to target commercial vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
The command said the attacks had weakened Iran’s ability to carry out strikes against commercial shipping in the strategic waterway.
Iran has not yet issued an official response to the US operation.
Tensions between Washington and Tehran have escalated again, with the US military announcing a new wave of strikes against Iran early Wednesday morning.
Earlier, CENTCOM had stated that it launched new attacks on Iran at 6:00 am US time on Wednesday. The command said the strikes were aimed at weakening Iran’s military capabilities that could be used to target commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
Before this, the United States carried out strikes on several locations across Iran on Tuesday night, targeting dozens of sites during an operation that lasted nearly seven hours.
The US military said the operations were conducted during the reimposition of a naval blockade on Iran. Following those attacks, tensions in the region increased further, with Iran beginning retaliatory actions.
Reports emerged of drone and missile attacks in several countries hosting US military bases, further weakening efforts toward a temporary ceasefire agreement.
On Wednesday morning, Bahrain and Kuwait issued alerts over the threat of possible missile attacks. Authorities advised citizens to remain cautious amid concerns over potential strikes from Iran.
According to reports, such alerts have been issued on a daily basis in recent days, increasing pressure on the fragile ceasefire situation in the region.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed that it had targeted facilities linked to the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet in Bahrain.
Iran’s state television network IRIB reported that the IRGC claimed it had destroyed the US Fifth Fleet’s NSI management center, command and control center, key military equipment storage facilities, and fuel storage sites in Bahrain.
However, the United States and Bahrain have not issued any immediate official response to the claim, and the reported damage has not been independently verified.
The latest escalation comes as tensions between the United States and Iran entered their fifth consecutive day, with the situation becoming increasingly serious.
Iranian officials confirmed that more than 30 civilians were killed in recent US strikes on southern Iran.
Iranian news agency Tasnim reported that US forces attacked the Bamput barracks with 13 missiles, killing seven personnel from Iran’s 388th Brigade and injuring several others.
The Iranian military claimed that its defensive measures helped limit casualties, adding that the US strikes were intended to cause maximum damage by targeting guesthouses, guard posts, and residential facilities.
Iran’s Health Ministry spokesperson Hossein Kermanpour said that more than 260 people were injured in recent US attacks. He added that 222 injured individuals were discharged from hospitals after receiving necessary medical treatment.
He further said that three children under the age of 18 were among those injured, while at least two people were killed in the specific strikes.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump warned Iran that if it did not immediately agree to a new deal with Washington, its power plants and key bridges would be targeted and destroyed next week.
Speaking in an interview with US television channel Fox News, President Trump said the United States would carry out “very heavy attacks” on Iran that night and continue them the following night.
Trump said the coming week would be “very bad” for Iran, adding that by then, the US would have destroyed all of Iran’s power plants and bridges unless Tehran returned to the negotiating table.
