In a video message from Lahore, Afridi said a large number of people came out onto the streets on Monday without any call from the party, but Punjab Police blocked roads by placing barriers.
He said he was currently in Lahore and would lead the street movement at 5pm. Afridi claimed that the lights at the location they were heading towards had been switched off.
The KP chief minister alleged that petrol stations were shut down, vehicles were prevented from getting fuel and tents were removed from the place where PTI workers were staying. He also claimed that several workers were arrested.
Afridi said Punjab Police detained PTI workers and placed them in a prisoner van. He said he stood on the police vehicle in protest after being told that the workers would be released, but they were not freed.
He further claimed that he was driven around Lahore’s roads for 15 minutes without security before being left midway, describing the incident as a major security risk.
Afridi said he did not fear a security threat but was instead facing a threat from security itself. He accused the Punjab Police of being politicised and said the force had been made toxic through political interference.
He said PTI’s street movement would continue and called on supporters to come out in Lahore.
