According to the military s media wing, the attackers attempted to breach the security of the checkpost, but their assault was thwarted by the swift and coordinated response of security forces.
The ISPR said an explosive-laden vehicle used by the attackers was engaged and destroyed before it reached the checkpost, killing the suicide bomber without causing any damage to the security installation.
Security personnel then pursued the remaining attackers, who took refuge in a nearby compound. A subsequent clearance operation resulted in the killing of three more militants, the military said.
The ISPR added that no security personnel were injured during the operation.
Area sanitisation underway
Following the operation, security forces launched a sanitisation exercise to search for any remaining militants in the area.
The military reiterated that its counterterrorism campaign under the Azm-e-Istehkam strategy would continue to eliminate what it described as foreign-sponsored terrorism from the country.
Follows deadly Tank attack
The operation comes a day after security forces killed 12 militants following an attack on a joint police checkpost in Tank district.
According to the ISPR, militants attempted to overrun the checkpost during the night of July 23-24, but security personnel repelled the assault and pursued the fleeing attackers, killing 12 of them.
After failing to capture the post, the attackers rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into its perimeter wall.
The explosion caused extensive damage to the facility and resulted in the deaths of 15 personnel, including 12 members of the armed forces, two police officials and one government official from the former forest department.
Ongoing counterterrorism operations
Pakistan has experienced a rise in militant attacks, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, since the Afghan Taliban returned to power in Afghanistan in 2021.
In response to cross-border attacks, Pakistan launched Operation Ghazab lil-Haq in February this year, targeting what it says are militant sanctuaries operating from Afghan territory.
