Despite the challenging weather, Deutsche Bahn said on Friday that its S-Bahn urban rail services in major cities including Berlin, Hamburg, Munich and Stuttgart, as well as long-distance trains, would operate normally on Monday. The company noted that its staff are not represented by the Verdi union.
Negotiations between Verdi and municipal employer associations remain strained, with union leaders accusing authorities of attempting to reduce worker benefits and extend shifts.
In Berlin, Verdi negotiators claimed transport operators want employees to finance workplace improvements by sacrificing sick pay and flexible working hours.
The next round of talks is scheduled for February 9. Union leaders have warned that more strikes could follow if employers fail to offer meaningful concessions.
