According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), rainfall ranged from moderate to heavy in different areas, with the highest recorded at 55.6mm in Korangi. The weather remains cloudy and relatively cool, with temperatures expected between 27°C and 29°C and humidity at 82%.
Most fatalities occurred due to collapsing structures. In Baldia Town’s Mawachh Goth, 13 people were killed when a building collapsed, while rescue operations continued to search for those still trapped. In Landhi’s Majeed Colony, a wall collapse killed two people and injured three others.
Additional incidents included a fatal lightning strike near Malir River, a woman killed in a roof collapse in Korangi Sector 3½, and a man who died after a tree fell on him in Korangi No 5. Authorities reported at least seven more injuries across the city.
Strong winds accompanied the storm, reaching speeds of up to 97 km/h in Mauripur and 90 km/h on Sharea Faisal, uprooting trees and damaging infrastructure.
Murtaza Wahab urged residents to remain indoors and avoid unnecessary travel, warning of further risks due to falling trees and unstable structures.
The PMD has forecast continued rain, thunderstorms, strong winds, and possible hailstorms in Karachi and other parts of Sindh, as a westerly weather system affects the region. Another spell of rain is also expected between March 24 and 27.
