This will be his first visit to Pakistan. The visit coincides with the seventy fifth anniversary of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Indonesia.
In a post on X, the Foreign Office of Pakistan stated that President Prabowo will hold meetings with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, President Asif Ali Zardari and the Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Asim Munir.
Both sides will take up an extensive agenda aimed at deepening Pakistan Indonesia relations and exploring new opportunities for cooperation in trade, investment, defence, health, information technology, climate, education and culture. They will also work to increase collaboration on regional and global forums.
The Foreign Office said that several Memoranda of Understanding are expected to be signed during the visit.
The statement described the relationship between Pakistan and Indonesia as close and based on shared values and mutual interests. It said that the visit will provide an important opportunity to strengthen bilateral ties and expand cooperation, contributing to the continued growth of the partnership between the two countries.
The last visit to Pakistan by an Indonesian president took place in 2018 when President Joko Widodo travelled to Islamabad.
In July this year, Indonesia’s Defence Minister, Lieutenant General retired Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, met Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at the Prime Minister’s Office. During the meeting he expressed Indonesia’s desire to further strengthen defence ties with Pakistan and to explore avenues for cooperation in defence production.
The defence minister also met Field Marshal Asim Munir at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi. According to the Inter Services Public Relations, he led a delegation of senior representatives from military and intelligence institutions and held wide ranging discussions with Pakistan’s top military leadership.
