According to Pakistan’s Interior Ministry, Naqvi is expected to hold a series of meetings with senior Iranian officials during his visit. He will also convey messages from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff Syed Asim Munir to the Iranian leadership.
The visit comes against the backdrop of growing tensions between Washington and Tehran, despite a fragile ceasefire that has been in place since April 8. Recent exchanges of attacks between the two sides have raised concerns about the durability of the truce.
Pakistan has been actively engaged in diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions and facilitating dialogue between the United States and Iran since the outbreak of hostilities in the Middle East earlier this year.
Before departing for Tehran, Naqvi met Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to discuss the visit and review the country s internal security and law-and-order situation. According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, the premier provided guidance regarding the objectives of the diplomatic mission.
The latest escalation occurred on Friday when the US military said it had targeted radar installations in Iran after intercepting drones allegedly heading toward the Strait of Hormuz.
Soon afterwards, air raid sirens sounded in Kuwait and Bahrain, both key US allies in the Gulf region, while explosions were reported by media correspondents on the ground.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards later announced that they had launched missile strikes against what they described as “enemy bases” in the region in response to what they called a US incursion on the Iranian islands of Sirik and Qeshm.
According to the United States Central Command, Iran fired seven ballistic missiles toward Kuwait and Bahrain. The command stated that six missiles were intercepted, while the seventh failed to reach its intended target.
CENTCOM also rejected Iranian claims that the headquarters of the US Fifth Fleet in Bahrain had been damaged, stating that there were no reports of injuries to American personnel.
Pakistan s diplomatic engagement comes as regional and international stakeholders seek to prevent the renewed confrontation from escalating into a broader conflict and to preserve the prospects for a lasting agreement between Washington and Tehran.
