According to Iranian media, the two leaders exchanged views on the shifting political climate and the fragile security situation in the Middle East. Pezeshkian stressed that when the global community turns a blind eye to those responsible for wars, the entire international order risks drifting into deeper instability.
‘It is dangerous when accountability disappears from the global stage,’ the Iranian president noted, hinting that ignoring aggressors could create long-term threats to international peace. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also reached out to Iran’s newly appointed Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei through a formal letter.
In the message, the Pakistani leader expressed deep sorrow and solidarity over the death of Iran’s long-time Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, who was reportedly killed along with members of his family during recent military strikes attributed to the United States and Israel.
Sharif wrote that the people of Pakistan stand shoulder to shoulder with the Iranian nation during this painful chapter. At the same time, he congratulated Mojtaba Khamenei on assuming the role of Supreme Leader, expressing hope that his leadership would guide Iran toward peace, stability, dignity, and prosperity.
The prime minister emphasized that Pakistan and Iran share a relationship that runs deeper than politics one rooted in faith, history, culture, and language. He reaffirmed Islamabad’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with Tehran across all areas of mutual interest.
However, the regional atmosphere remains tense. U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli leadership have already signaled that the new Iranian leadership could also become a target, adding another layer of uncertainty to an already volatile landscape.
For now, Tehran’s message appears deliberate and measured, Iran says it is not looking for a fight, but the region is still holding its breath.
