The decision was taken during a high-level meeting chaired by Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman in Islamabad, where participants reviewed the current situation in Azad Kashmir in detail.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Ameer Mian Muhammad Aslam, Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Azad Jammu and Kashmir Dr Muhammad Mushtaq Khan, former Ameers Abdul Rashid Turabi and Dr Khalid Mahmood Khan, Secretary General Jahangir Khan, Islamabad Ameer Nasrullah Randhawa, Deputy Ameers Noor-ul-Bari and Raja Muhammad Fazil, along with other senior leaders.
The participants welcomed the Joint Action Committee s offer for Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman to play a mediatory role, describing it as a positive development. They stressed that the current situation in Azad Kashmir was unacceptable and could not be left to worsen further.
The meeting decided that Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman would hold consultations with the President of Pakistan, the Prime Minister and other national leaders to help ease tensions and restore normalcy in the region. A special committee has also been formed to immediately engage with the Joint Action Committee, prepare recommendations and propose practical measures for resolving the crisis.
Participants reiterated that the people of Kashmir have an unwavering bond with Pakistan and emphasized that the current crisis can only be resolved through dialogue, reconciliation and national consensus.
The meeting also expressed serious concern over the humanitarian impact of the lockdown, which has continued for the past three weeks in Azad Kashmir. It said the closure of certain access routes has deprived residents of essential goods and disrupted the supply of medicines.
Jamaat-e-Islami called on the Government of Pakistan to take immediate emergency measures to ensure the delivery of essential supplies and medicines to the people of Azad Kashmir and to play an effective role in finding a peaceful resolution to the ongoing crisis.
