In a statement issued Friday, the palace said the King met soldiers, sailors, aviators and civil servants from the UK and NATO allies stationed at the site. Northwood hosts the UK’s Permanent Joint Headquarters as well as NATO Allied Maritime Command.
The visit was intended to highlight what the palace called the professionalism and dedication of those working across the command structure to support the UK and its allies.
The engagement comes amid heightened public scrutiny of the royal family following reports concerning the King’s younger brother, Prince Andrew. Buckingham Palace has said the King supports the authorities in any investigations.
Prince Andrew has previously faced allegations related to his association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. He has denied wrongdoing.
